Discover the Baie of Somme

Located on the Picardy coast, the Baie de Somme is northern France’s largest estuary. Spread over 72km2, the bay joins up with the English Channel over a 5km stretch from north to south. The area boasts numerous fantastic tourist attractions, and thanks to this, the area is visited by over 10 million tourists each year.

One of the most attractive bays in the world

Despite a fresh, humid oceanic climate, the Baie de Somme attracts both sporty visitors and those who just want to go for a wander. If you love peace and quiet and enjoy large, open areas, you can walk the entire length of the 72km coast path, listening to the sound of the waves. You could also explore one of the many natural reserves or enjoy the 44km of cycle paths for a big bike ride. Between land and water, the Baie de Somme has various bodies of water, marshes, and dunes, which often see birds during their migration, as well as various seal calves (it is advised not to approach them!) Since 1989, the Baie de Somme has been named one of the most beautiful in the world, with the title being shared by Halong Bay (Vietnam) and the Mont St Michel bay, under a label named “The world’s most beautiful bays”.
